today is weird. i don’t mean today as in this specific 24 hour period… i mean this culture. our culture. this segment of time that we’re dealt - it’s weird. we are in a world of very superficial and pseudo relationships. however, our pride will never let us admit that to our selves. we have 841 friends and maybe one of them - usually a spouse -  is the only person who really knows us.

it’s like we’re on a bus.. driving past everyone we know. we have time to wave and recognize that we once had a good time with that person - but we move to the next and recall the history we’ve had with the others.

recently - chrissy and i were talking about this. who really knows you? not your name, not your hobbies, not your favorite music or tv show, but you? and all of you? in our culture… the more you really get to know somebody - the less you actually enjoy that person. we’re filled with judgement, envy, whatever else you’ll call it. it’s funny. when you open the self that you so often attempt to hide - people find your transparency unattractive… most of them anyway. it’s a shame when we label people by their sin isn’t it. isn’t that the most hopeless name we can give?

i find it comforting that the more our Lord knows us - the more He chooses to love us.

it begs the question - can we love people we don’t know….?
